Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-03-17 Last updated: 2026-03-17
Dander (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is a walking exploration app that gamifies neighbourhood discovery. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Summary
- Dander does not require an account, email, or personal information.
- Your walk history, discoveries, and quiz progress stay on your device.
- We collect anonymous analytics to improve the app.
- GPS data is used locally and sent to public map services to fetch nearby streets and points of interest.
1. Data We Collect
1.1 Location data
Dander uses your device’s GPS to track your walks and clear fog on the map. Location data is:
- Stored on your device as walk history (GPS coordinates, timestamps, distance, duration).
- Sent to OpenStreetMap services (Overpass API and Nominatim) as geographic bounding boxes to fetch nearby streets and points of interest. Only area coordinates are sent, not your precise position trail.
- Never uploaded to our servers. We do not operate a backend that stores your location data.
Location access requires your explicit permission. You can revoke it at any time in your device settings.
1.2 Analytics events
We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage events that help us understand how the app is used. These events include:
- Feature interactions (e.g. paywall viewed, quiz completed, zone shared).
- App lifecycle events (launch, resume, pause).
Analytics events do not include your GPS coordinates, walk history, or any personal identifiers. PostHog assigns an anonymous device identifier that is not linked to your name, email, or any account.
1.3 Crash reports
We use Sentry to collect crash reports when the app encounters an error. Crash reports include:
- Stack traces and error messages.
- Device type, OS version, and app version.
- A screenshot of the app at the time of the crash.
Crash reports do not include personally identifiable information. We have explicitly disabled PII collection in our Sentry configuration.
1.4 Subscription data
If you subscribe to Dander Pro, your purchase is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) through RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. We receive:
- Your subscription status (active, expired, trial).
- The plan you purchased (monthly or annual).
We do not receive your payment details, Apple ID, or Google account information.
1.5 Data we do NOT collect
- Email addresses
- Names or usernames
- Phone numbers
- Photos or camera data
- Contacts
- Browsing history
- Advertising identifiers

4. Data Storage and Security
- On-device storage: All user-generated data (walks, discoveries, quiz progress, fog state) is stored locally on your device using Hive, an embedded database. This data is not encrypted at rest.
- No cloud sync: Your data is not uploaded to any server. If you uninstall the app, your data is permanently deleted.
- API keys: All third-party API keys are injected at build time and are not stored in the app’s source code.
5. Data Retention
- On-device data is retained until you uninstall the app or clear the app’s storage.
- Analytics data is retained by PostHog according to their data retention policy.
- Crash reports are retained by Sentry according to their data retention policy.
6. Children’s Privacy
Dander does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not require an account or collect personal information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g. GDPR, CCPA), you may have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you.
- Delete your data (uninstalling the app deletes all on-device data; contact us to request deletion of analytics/crash data).
- Opt out of analytics by not granting network access to the app.
Since we do not collect personal identifiers, we cannot associate analytics or crash data with a specific individual.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
